Though BNU is China's foremost teaching college, their first international education conference was held during our first few weeks. Over 400 principals and administrators were brought to China to promote Mandarin language learning. I met the superintendent and school board of San Francisco, as well as the principal of Lincoln High School in the city. Apparently, according to the Contra Costa Sun (my super local paper) my mother mailed to me, my district's superintendant was here as well in the shi tang next door. I'd never seen so many security guards in my life. There was a Beijing Gong An every few paces, which was fairly creepy (I told the educators I talked with that this isn't normal.) After BNU they split into different groups going all over China, hence the signs.
